Basic Security Training

Start your career as a body guard, loss prevention officer, private investigator, security consultant, hospital maintenance worker and more! The assertive skills you’ll gain from this course are valued attributes in many organizations, as you’ll have the training to identify and prevent situations that could escalate into more serious problems. The BST training program is the first step to a new career, and a valuable asset to your resume.

The BST Training Program is a 40-hour course required by the Justice Institute before obtaining a Security Worker’s License. Once you have successfully passed the course, you will be required to provide a clean criminal record check, fingerprinting, and your BST certificate to be eligible to apply for your security worker’s license. (The fees for criminal records, fingerprinting, and security licensing are not included in our course fees.)

Justice Institute

2 weeks (40 hours) of classroom training

Students supply:

  • Loose Leaf Paper
  • 3-ring binder
  • Flash drive
  • Pens/Pencils/Highlighters

College supplies:

  • Handouts & photocopied materials
  • Textbooks

 

  • Confirmation of mature student status (19 years of age or older on first day of classes) OR provide evidence of Grade 12 completion or equivalent
  • Meeting with a Program Coordinator
  • English competency assessment may be required
  • Canadian citizenship, landed immigrant status and permanent residency is required to apply for a security workers license
  • Successful program completion requires a mark of not less than 60%
  • Graduates of the program qualify to receive their security worker license through the Justice Institute of BC upon successfully passing the licensing exam and a criminal record check
