IT Network & Repair-Diploma Program

The dual focus of this IT Network & Repair Training Program is the preparation for the A+ and Network+ exams, as outlined by Comp TIA. Learn diagnosis, repair and advanced networking and assemble and network a PC-compatible computer from basic components.

Work BC notes that expanding networks and growth in information technologies, security and electronic commerce are factors expected to increase demand for IT technicians. As well, they anticipate that rapidly changing technology will give recent graduates (and those with upgraded skills) an employment advantage.

(Comp TIA exams are written in Victoria – not administered by the college – and therefore, exam fees are not included in the program fees.)

Practicum

IT Network & Repair Training Course 40 weeks (approximately 800 hours) total

  • 37 weeks of classroom training and a 3 week practicum placement

Students Supply:

  • Loose-leaf paper
  • 3-ring binder
  • Flash drive
  • Pens/pencils/highlighters

College Supplies:

  • Handouts & photocopied materials
  • Student Manuals
  • PC Repair toolkit
  • Confirmation of mature student status (19 years or older on first day, and out of school for 1 full year) OR if under 19, evidence of Grade 12 completion or equivalent
  • Meeting with an Admissions Advisor
  • Successful Completion of an Entrance Assessment exam
  • English competency assessment may be required
  • Introductory computer skills are an asset
  • Students are assessed on each module by a test, project, assignment or demonstration of skills
  • Students are assessed on professionalism, conduct, attendance
  • Students are assessed on their practicum component
  • An average of all module grades, as well as the grades for professional conduct and attendance is calculated.  Successful completion of the program requires a minimum of a 65% average grade and successful completion of the practicum component.

Students attend a 3-week practicum component near the end of their program.  During this time, students take the role of employee and work diligently to maximize the learning opportunity and create a positive experience for themselves, the college and the practicum host.
