Microsoft Word
The objective of this course is to introduce students to the basic commands, functions, and capabilities of MS Word. It is designed for computer users who are new to word processing.
Microsoft Excel
The objective of this course is to introduce students to the basic commands, functions, and capabilities of MS Excel. It is designed for computer users who are new to word processing.
Microsoft Outlook
This is an entry-level course to introduce students to Microsoft Outlook, including email, calendar, and customizing functions.
Microsoft Word Advanced
The main objective of this course is to introduce students to the advanced functions and capabilities of MS Word. It is designed for computer users who are familiar and comfortable with Microsoft Word.
Microsoft Excel Advanced
The main objective of this course is to introduce students to the advanced functions of Excel. Students will begin with a quick review of the basic operations of Microsoft Excel and eventually move to some of the more advanced functions of it.
Administrative Office Procedures
The objective of this course is to introduce students to practical, professional, and up-to-date office skills for today’s business environment.
Business Writing
Business Communication Essentials’ integrated learning system helps you develop your communication skills so you will be prepared for the workplace. The features of the text will help you learn and apply the communication skills needed for a successful career.
Communication Strategy for Business
This course helps students achieve the highest level of professionalism when conducting business. With a clear communication model that helps students professionally analyze and react to any sort of business situation, this course stresses the importance of etiquette in successful entrepreneurial practices.
Bookkeeping & Payroll
This course provides students with an understanding of the manual bookkeeping process so they will better understand the process of transaction entry into Sage 50 and other accounting software applications. In addition, students will be provided with an understanding of office commerce and common record-keeping procedures.
Accounting Software I
The main objective of this course is to provide an overview of the features and use of Sage 50 and to teach students how to do basic data entry into Sage 50.
Accounting Software II
This course will provide an opportunity for participants to strengthen their own ability to learn continuously in today’s ever-changing workplace.
Financial Analysis & Modeling
The goal of this course is to provide students with the knowledge and tools needed to reason through more complex financial business problems. Utilizing a variety of “real-life” business analysis simulations, students gain experience in analyzing financial data and preparing practical financial reports – beyond the Balance Sheet and Income Statement – to support effective business and organizational decision-making.
Income Tax
This course is designed to provide an understanding of the Canadian Income Tax laws and regulations. The course will also discuss the significance of the tax ramifications for any business decisions involved.
Human Resources Management
This course provides extensive coverage of all Human Resources Management (HRM) topics, such as job analysis, HR planning, recruitment, selection, orientation and training, career development, compensation and benefits, performance appraisal, health and safety, and labour relations.
Career Strategies
This course focuses on helping students develop an ongoing, flexible portfolio of information about themselves and work in order to prepare them for satisfying and productive lives in an ever-changing world. The exercises and writing activities encourage students to take a proactive role in creating their futures, motivating them to become personally responsible for their life and to become an active participant in its process.
Practicum
Students will work under the direct supervision of an industry mentor. To assist students as they prepare for the transition from post-secondary education to the world of work or, in the case of those re-training for a new career, to introduce students to their new area of employment.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Students are required to be 19 years of age prior to the start of the program or possess a high school diploma (or equivalent), and provide evidence of one of the following English proficiency requirements:
• Completion of grades 9-11, including English 10 with a grade of ‘C’ or higher from a country where English is one of the principal languages, or
• Completion of 2 years of full-time post-secondary education at an accredited institution where English is the language of instruction, or
• Evidence of graduation from a language program with an established pathway/articulation agreement allowing direct entry (no further testing required) to a diploma or degree program at a public institution in Canada, or
• Provide verified results for one of the English language proficiency tests listed below. Test results must be dated no more than two years before the start date of the program:
• International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic – Minimum overall score of 5.5
• Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) IBT – Minimum overall score of 46
• Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL) – Minimum overall score of 40
• Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP)
• Listening 6, Speaking 6, Reading 5, and Writing 5
• Duolingo English Test (DET) – Minimum overall score of 95
• Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic – Minimum overall score of 43
• Cambridge English Qualifications: B2 First exam (FCE) -Minimum overall score of 160 or “C”
• Cambridge Linguaskill – Minimum overall B2 level
• LANGUAGECERT Academic – Minimum overall B2 level
• The Michigan English Test (MET) – Minimum overall B2 level

No experience is required. The program covers foundational skills needed for entry-level positions.
How much time should I expect to dedicate to studying outside of class?
On average, students should expect to spend 5-10 hours per week on assignments, projects, and studying outside of class hours.
