Program Description
Graduates of the Dental Assistant program will have specialized knowledge, critical thinking and decision-making skills and will have developed and mastered all the technical, professional and interpersonal skills needed to perform within their clinical and administrative scope of practice. Working as part of a dental team, students will learn how to assist with dental procedures, provide quality oral care, maintain equipment and supplies, manage patient records and ensure that clinical and office procedures run efficiently and effectively.
Dental Assistant Certificate was reviewed and approved by the registrar of the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills.

All Domestic students and students whose first language is English are required:
To be 19 years of age or older or possess a high school diploma
To provide evidence of one of the following: successful completion of Grade 12 OR successful completion of Grade 10 English OR successful completion of the Excel Career College Entrance Test with a minimum of mark of 65%.
All International students and students whose first language is not English must provide evidence of one of the following:
Successful completion of Grade 12 from an English-speaking educational institution OR
Successful completion of a three-credit academic English Course or equivalent from a Canadian accredited post-secondary institution with a minimum grade of C OR
Proof of passing one of the following English Language proficiency tests at the level indicated:
IELTS 6.0 overall
Cambridge English Scale: score of 169 or higher
Cambridge English: Advanced score of Grade C
Cambridge English: Business Vantage score of Grade C
Canadian Language Benchmark Placement Test (CLBPT) minimum score of 7
CELPIP minimum score of 7
TOEFL score of at least 60
TOEIC score of at least 605
Pearson Test of English (PTE) score of at least 46
CAEL minimum score of 50
Duolingo English test score of 95 or higher
Excel Career College entrance test with a minimum of 65%

Upon completion of the program, graduates will be eligible to write the National Dental Assisting Board examination and become a licensed Dental Assistant.
The career of a dental assistant is as a dental health professional who works closely with and under the supervision of a dentist. They work with patients by performing tasks before and after the dentist meets with the patient, as well as assisting the dentist during certain dental procedures.

1140 hours (45 weeks) of full-time synchronous, in-person training, including 980 hours of theory training, and two 80-hour practicum placements, for a combined total of 160 hours of practicum experience.

The Dental Assistant Certificate program leads to a career which is regulated by the National Dental Assisting Examining Board.
Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be eligible for the National Dental Assistant Examining Board (NDAEB) written exam and clinical practice evaluation.
