About the Program

This program provides a comprehensive introduction to the principles of sustainability and the various forms of renewable energies. Students will explore the critical concepts of ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) and understand the importance of sustainable practices in modern industries. Students will delve into different sustainability frameworks such as the Triple Bottom Line, TCFD, CDP, GHG protocols, and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), offering insights into creating a more sustainable future.


The Sustainability and Renewable Energy Certificate was reviewed and approved by the registrar of the Private Training Institutions Regulatory Unit (PTIRU) of the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills.

Introduction to ESG and Sustainability

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the principles and practices of ESG and sustainability, highlighting their growing importance in investment analysis and corporate strategy. Students will gain a solid foundation in these critical dimensions and the materiality metrics associated with them, preparing them to make informed decisions and drive positive changes in their future careers.


ESG Standards and Reporting Frameworks, Canadian Sustainable Goals

This course offers a detailed look at ESG standards, reporting frameworks, and sustainability goals, emphasizing their relevance and application within Canada. Students will explore both global and local ESG frameworks, dive into regulatory and mandatory reporting requirements, and learn how these standards align with Canada’s sustainable development goals. By the end of the course, students will be prepared to integrate ESG practices into their careers, fostering sustainable and responsible business operations.


GHG Protocols and Regulations

This course covers the Canadian Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Offset Credit System Regulations, which are pivotal for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing GHG removals across Canada. Students will gain knowledge about the regulatory framework, project eligibility, and the steps required to develop and implement offset projects under federal protocols. This course prepares students to effectively participate in and manage projects that generate real, additional, quantifiable, verifiable, unique, and permanent GHG reductions.


Introduction to Renewable Energy

In this course students will delve into renewable energy sources including solar, hydro, wind, and biomass, examining their efficiency, accessibility, and environmental benefits. The course also introduces alternative energies like Green Hydrogen and ammonia, showcasing their potential in reducing carbon emissions and promoting environmental sustainability.


Introduction to Sustainable Finance and Impact Investing

This course offers an introduction to sustainable finance and impact investing. It covers essential concepts, frameworks, and practices that integrate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria into financial decision-making and investment strategies aimed at generating measurable social and environmental impacts. By the end of the course, students will be equipped with the knowledge to navigate and contribute to the field of sustainable finance and impact investing.


Capstone Project

A capstone project provides hands-on critical thinking experience to the students and allows the students to conceptualize the classroom learning of the concepts to the real-world application.

Admission Requirements

Students are required to be 19 years of age prior to the start of the program or possess a high school diploma (or equivalent) and provide evidence of one of the following English proficiency requirements:

• Completion of grades 9-11, including English 10 with a grade of  ‘C’ or higher from a country where English is one of the principal languages, or 
• Completion of 2 years of full-time post-secondary education at  an accredited institution where English is the language of  instruction, or 
• Provide verified results for one of the English language proficiency tests listed below. Test results must be dated no  more than two years before the start date of the program: 
• International English Language Testing System (IELTS)  Academic – Minimum overall score of 5.5 
• Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) IBT – Minimum overall score of 46 
• Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL) – Minimum overall score of 40 
• Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program  (CELPIP)  
Listening 6, Speaking 6, Reading 5, and Writing 5
• Duolingo English Test (DET) – Minimum overall score of  95 
• Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic – Minimum overall score of 43 
• Cambridge English Qualifications: B2 First exam (FCE) -Minimum overall score of 160 or “C” 
• Cambridge Linguaskill – Minimum overall B2 level 
• LANGUAGECERT Academic – Minimum overall B2 level 
• The Michigan English Test (MET) – Minimum overall B2  level 
• iTEP Academic – Minimum overall score of 3.5 
• EIKEN – Minimum placement of Grade Pre-1
