About the Program
This course is intended to help advanced students improve their comprehension and real-world use of English in all four skill areas: reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
Upon the completion of this course, the learner will have demonstrated:
∙ Correct usage of English grammar in writing and speaking.
∙ Effective speaking ability in English and being understood.
∙ Effective oral presentations on topics and communication skills.
∙ Sound listening skills and response skills.
∙ Reading speed and comprehension of written text.
∙ Use of vocabulary – both pronunciation and understanding context.

Students are required to be 19 years of age prior to the start of the program or possess a high school diploma (or equivalent) AND
∙ Completion of the Excel’s English as a Second Language (ESL) Upper Intermediate course, or
∙ Completion of grades 9-11, including English 10 with a grade of ‘C’ or higher from a country where English is one of the principal languages, or
∙ Completion of 2 years of full-time post-secondary education at an accredited institution where English is the language of instruction, or
∙ Evidence of graduation from a language program with an established pathway/articulation agreement allowing direct entry (no further testing required) to a diploma or degree program at a public institution in Canada, or
∙ Provide verified results for one of the English language proficiency tests listed below. Test results must be dated no more than two years before the start date of the program:
∙ International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic – 6-7 ○ Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) iBT – 61-94
∙ Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) – 50-69
∙ Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP) – Listening 7-9, Speaking 7-9, Reading 7-9, Writing 7-9
∙ Duolingo English Test (DET) – 111-135
∙ Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic) – 56-75
∙ Cambridge English Qualifications (FCE, CPE) – B2-C1 (CEFR Level)
